B i o g r a p h y

   Born in Huntsville and raised in Lacey's Spring, AL, Barry Wilson Kay, the son of Gene and Bonnie Kay, is a freelance musician/music teacher living in Union City, NJ.
   Barry went to Cotaco Elementary & Junior High Schools & Brewer High School. He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a B.A. in Music Performance (classical guitar emphasis) in 1985 and then worked at Noah's Ark Retreat Center in Panama City Beach, Taylor Memorial UMC (United Methodist Church)  in Birmingham, and King's Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati.  He taught private guitar lessons at both of his alma maters (BSC and Wallace State).  In 1989 he moved to Nashville, made many demo cassettes of his songs, which he pitched to producers & A&R reps while working at a group home for the mentally ill in Franklin, TN.  He began working at Nature's Classroom environmental/experiential education camp for kids in Mentone, AL in the early '90s. In 1994 he recorded his first CD album "Eternity Beyond the Song", released in 1995 - the same year he married Sharon (a Vandy nurse). Together they moved to San Antonio for another youth ministry job at Colonial Hills UMC.  In '98 they became parents and moved back to Alabama (Valley Head). In 2001 the family of 3 moved to Athens, AL where Barry served as music director @ Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Madison until 2012.  After serving as a substitute worship leader, First Light coordinator at 1st  UMC Athens AL and music director at Parker Chapel in Madison, AL; Barry moved to Queens NY and sometimes assisted the music ministries of Graffiti Fellowship Church in Coney Island (Brooklyn), Beach Church (Queens), East Harlem Fellowship Church (Manhattan), Graffiti 2 (The Bronx), and Faith United Methodist Church (Staten Island), among others.
